Felbrigg Norfolk
Behind the altar rails and in front of the c1400 sedilia lies the brass effigies of Simon Bigod de Felbrig 1351, wife Alice de Thorpe 1380 and their son Roger de Felbrig 1368 & wife Elizabeth Scales.
It is thought to have been placed c1380 by their grandson & son Simon Bigod de Felbrigg in honour of his grandfather Simon & father Roger.
"Symond de Felbrigg lies here; God have mercy on his soul. And this effigy is made in remembrance of Alice who was his wife, who lies buried at Harling and not here; God have mercy on her soul.
This effigy is made in remembrance of Monsieur Roger de Felbrigg who died in Prussia / Paris and there his body is buried; God have pity on his soul Amen. Amen.
Lady Elizabeth who was the wife of Monsieur Roger de Felbrig lies here; God have mercy on her soul Amen"
Roger was taken prisoner during the wars in France in 1355, but was later released. He died abroad c1380. (There is some confusion whether his place of death should read p'ras (Paris) or "prus" (Prussia.)
Symond / Simon was the son of Sir Roger le Bigod & wife Cecilia
He was the grandson of Hugh le Bigod 3rd son of Hugh Earl of Norfolk & Maud heiress of Richard de Felbrigg
He m Alice daughter of Sir George de Thorpe having a son
Roger m Elizabeth daughter of Robert 3rd Baron Scales of Worlingham & Mildenhall & Catherine co-heiress sister of William de Ufford, 2nd Earl of Suffolk

In front of the sedilia, set into the floor beside the altar, is a 14th century brass to Simon de Felbrigg and his wife Alice, along with their son Roger and his wife Elizabeth. The brass was commissioned around 1380 by Simon de Felbrigg, and shows him in civilian attire, with a sword at his belt. His son Roger, by contrast, is shown in armour and stands atop a lion. Sir Simon must have commissioned the brass when he heard of Roger's death in Prussia.
