Miles was the son of Sir Miles Stapleton KG 1364 & Joan Ingham heiress daughter of Oliver de Ingham 1344 & Elizabeth daughter of Eudes la Zouche and Millicent Cantilupe
He was a minor at his father's death and the custody of his lands was given to Queen Philippa who granted them to Sir Brian Stapleton of Wighaill Yorkshire (buried here but brass totally lost), Sir John de Boys and Sir Roger de Boys
He m Ela daughter of Sir Edmund de Ufford (brother of Robert Ufford, Earl of Suffolk) by Sibyl Pierrepoint / Perpoynt
