Ornate canopy, surmounted by two shields
Surrounding the figure and canopy is a an inlaid brass rectangular "surround", on which is engraved :
"Ici gist Philip Peletoot, Chevalier qe morust le XIII jour de Aust an de grace mill CCCLXJ
"Here lies Philip Peletoot, Knight, who died the thirteenth day of August in the year of grace, 1361."

Above the canopy are two shields, the dexter paly and a chief indented. The other shield is plain, a modern restoration. The upper part of the figure and the inscription were restored in 1851
