There is some question about the date of the engraving. Kent, p. 94, dates it c1400. Norris, I, 56, says c1410 or later. He points out (II, 301, n. 14) that the style of the armor is consistent with an earlier date, but its details are of a later style. He finds
this true, too, of the presentation of the effigy of Lady Burton, and would date the engraving as late as c1420. Emmerson, p. 73, would also date it c1420. He writes that the sabatons and the small-headed lion are clues to this later date and believes that the armor is deliberately cut of date. Cf. Emmerson, p. 52.

1353-1400 Sir Ingelram Bruyn Lord of the Manor and Patron of the church.
The brass originally lay on the floor of the chancel; the indent shows that the head rested upon a tilting helm surmounted by the crest of Bruyn. The armour consists of a shirt of mail covered by a jupon with the usual defences of plate on the arms and legs, gauntlets and sollerets. His feet rest upon a lion, a broad embroidered bawdrick supports his sword and dagger. Across his chest is the latin inscription which tranaslates - "Behold now I sleep in the dust But I know that my Redeemer liveth'.
The 2 shields placed above the arch have the arms of Bruyn (Azure, a cross moline or i.e. a gold cross on a blue ground)
The Latin inscription is now lost but was recorded by Weever in 1631. "Here lieth Ingelram Bruyn, Knight. once Lord of this Manor and Patron of this church who died on the 12th day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Four Hundred, on whose soul may God have mercy Amen".
