This noble brass exemplifies the practice of placing some ornamental device between each word of a border-legend, which first appears about the commencement of the fifteenth century. The jupon has its border deeply cut to a leaf-like pattern. This Sir Nicholas Dagworth was a person of high eminence under King Edward III. and King Richard II.
Sir Nicholas Dagworth - He inherited Blickling Hall and estate from James de Holveston under the terms of James' will of 1378 that if he had no male heirs it should go to Nicholas. Nicholas is presumed to have married one of James' daughters but this doesn't seem to be the case..
Sir Nicholas spent a long and active life in the service of both King Edward III and King Richard II. Between 1355-65 he fought in campaigns against the French, before becoming a diplomat and court official. After being imprisoned in Rochester Castle by Henry IV he retired here and built the old hall
