ca. 1377-1380 - 'Pierre Sacquespee (+1340), Jean du Pluvinage (+1376) & Marie au Grenon (+1385)', former cemetery Saint-Nicaise, Arras, Musee des Beaux-Arts, Arras, dep. Pas-de-Calais, France
The church monument to Marie au Grenon (+1385), her first husband Pierre Sacquespee (+1340) and her second husband Jean du Pluvinage (+1376) was commissioned by Marie after the death of Jean du Pluvinage, as suggested in the inscription.
The superb wall-mounted memorial depicts Marie, her two daughters, Pierre in armour and Jean in formal robes, all kneeling before the Virgin and Child. Two angels present the coats of arms above the heads of the respective individuals.
Pierre wears typical Northern French/Flemish/Netherlandish armour of the 1370s:
a jupon with a bulbous breast, a high waist and deep skirt;
a hauberk with a V-shaped hem;
a hip belt worn at the same level of the jupon's edge;
plate armour on the limbs.
The inscription says:
