The Uffizi Drawing-Book (inv. 2264F-2281F, 18304F-18306F, 18324), dated ca. 1400, has been
frequently linked with coetaneous Valencian painting. Nevertheless, until recently it had not been considered
the original purpose of this collection of drawings. By employing codicology, it can be proved that the booklet
was a working tool used by several authors (at least, by two draftsmen: one of them with Italian connections
and the other one –closely related with Valencia– probably coming from Northern lands). Moreover,
the peculiar appearance of these drawings clearly shows the transition from the model book to the sketchbook
that took place in Europe over those years.
