ca. 1355-1360 - 'Massacre of the Innocents', 'scenes from the life of Christ', west portal, Lorenzkirche, Nurnberg, Bayern, Germany
This soldier shows some features of the middle of the 14th century which were more popular in German lands than elsewhere: less plate and cuir-bouilli armour is worn than in France, the Low Countries and England; a surcoat with short sleeves; chains attached to the coat-of-plates to hold the sword, dagger and sometimes heaume.
