ca. 1370 - 'Saint George', St. Albans Cathedral, Hertfordshire, England

On the south side of the feretory is the fine monument of Humphrey duke of Gloucester (ob. 1447), set up before 1450 by John Stoke, on the site of an earlier tomb, with an effigy of William, Lord Clinton, created earl of Huntingdon (fn. 83) (ob. 1354)

Saint George of England, patron Saint, 14th-century carved demi-figure in the Chapel of the Four Tapers, St. Albans Abbey Church. Discarded as rubbish in 1871 by Lord Grimthorpe; rescued by Charles Ashdown who later returned it.

The Cathedral's statue was lost for several centuries following the Reformation, but eventually rediscovered – in several pieces – on a heap of rubble by Charles Ashdown in 1872. It is thought to date between 1380 and 1410
