(Link) A stone effigy on the chapel floor, of a man in late 14thcentury plate armour, his garlanded head resting on his helm, may commemorate Gilbert Bernard (d. c. 1370)

(Link) it was the Bernard's, who in 1331 paid to have built, on the site of an earlier Norman church, a new church with a nave and chancel of the same height

(Link) Before the Peytons took over, the local family were the Bernards, and there are plenty of them here too, even though their successors have somewhat crowded them out. One of the oldest is the effigy of Sir William Bernard, who died in 1293. He lies in an ogeed tomb niche in the south wall, now almost hidden behind the two big Peyton memorials, and is so weathered that only the dog at his feet really has any detail left. His descendent Sir Gilbert Bernard has survived rather better – he died in 1340, and his effigy in the north-east corner of the chapel is mostly undamaged, aside from the loss of one arm and his sword. He has a short beard and curly hair, very much in the style favoured by Edward III and his court, and lies on a formidable cask helmet with decorated eye-slits and a high crest.

(Link) The manor of Isleham was acquired in the reign of King John (1199-1216) by the Bernard family.
Their coat of arms was a play on their name – a black bear with a gold muzzle and collar on a silver ground. (argent a bear rampant sable, muzzled and collared or). It appears in many places in the church, often quartered with those of the Peyton family who succeeded them in around 1430

(Link) By c. 1400 most of the independent freehold land had probably been absorbed into the Bernard family estate

- Brass of John Woodville (d. c. 1397) в Grafton Regis
- Tomb effigies of John Peryent and wife Joan Hertfordshire, England c. 1415 (1432?)
- Tomb effigies of Sir Philip Thornbury and his wife Margaret, 1457 (очень похож на нашего персонажа, но позже, хотя датировка явно неправильно очень поздняя)
- JOHN TIPTOFT, EARL OF WORCESTER (d. 1470)
JOHN TIPTOFT, EARL OF WORCESTER)
